If you are reading this post I assume you are in e-business or technology in one way or another. If you are in the majority, you are thinking about starting a site, in the process of starting a site, or have a site that is wasting hard drive space…
Let me explain something very important about success on the web…
Everything moves a million miles a minute on the web. I don’t care about your site from the next until I need it, and it needs to do something for me and do it right. I don’t care if you give me 50 extra wiz bangs rolled into the price.
What you need is called an MVP or Minimum Viable Product
You started developing the site for a very specific reason, so why are you working on all this other shit? No one cares about that, it will be an after thought later. Why not get something rolling now and work features in later…
Did Facebook launch with an ad platform, a game platform, events, albums, etc etc. No Facebook launched with profiles and a wall, then started working in features THAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY USE.
How can you even say what your site NEEDS if no one uses it yet? You have no freaking clue on what people want.
Hopefully this logic saves some of you guys time and motivates you to get your products out and get a customer base. The only way you are ever going to have success is by having customers, not shiny website “things”.
Get your site out, get customers, and then you can sit around an BS all day.
